wow
I hope Jeffro has spent the last couple of years actually learning the game of chess before making any more comments on the merits of a particular engine. After he realized that en passant is a legal chess move and not a glitch, he goes on to say that the tactics are repeditive for the opening moves.... Jeffro, that's called the "Opening Book." Stick to checkers, buddy.

This is a good chess program, arguably the best on the palm os. Don't listen to the opinions of people who don't know how to play the game.

poor
I stand corrected, the move I described is perfectly legal. It is called en passant capture, part of modern chess rules and rarely occurs. I was mistaken, however other glitches remain in the game, the tactics appear to be repetitive on opening moves. I stand by my review, there are better chess games out there for pda.

the game cheats
this game has glitchs just like the chess engine upon which it is based. play it enough and youll see it makes illegal moves like a diagonal pawn move to an empty space, then takes a parallel pawn. glitch! lame.

Hooray! Genius on my PDA
I am writing this mostly because I was shocked by the bad reviews I read here of Chess Genius.

I've owned many "stand-a-lone" portable chess computers over the past 15 years and PC programs. Chess Genius and other Richard Lang programs were the strongest programs availabe for the PC for over a decade. More importantly for PDA considerations his programs were tiny and well written eventually losing to much bigger Windows based programs. This program will use the limited PDA resources as well as possible. A famous incident was Kasparov losing to Genius (I think Genius was on a !00Mhz Pentium). No, your PDA won't beat Kasparov with this program, (and neither will you or I) but it will play a really strong game of chess.
An excellent program!

You've got it all wrong
The lower levels of easy mode are not all that bright-try offering an even piece exchange. Most of the time the lower levels sacrifice their piece but *forget* to capture your piece. I've even been known to pull a fast one on the higher levels--sometimes they get greedy and you can trade a knight for the game. But remember, no risk, no reward.

Suck-my-wallet Chess
The lower levels play at "genius" level for a handful of moves then makes rapid switch to "retarded" level, usu. sacrificing the queen. The software has no sound control or sound off.
The "full" version does not sound that much more exciting
than the demo.
I guess it's OK, but certainly not worth $25.00.
