I loved my IIIxe, and now my i705
My IIIxe died last month. Too many years being bent in my pants pocket. Great display, adequate processor speed, alkaline batteries lasted forever in it, NiMH batteries would last 1-2 weeks. Lots of cheap peripherals on eBay and elsewhere. Buying used Palm pdas can get you alot of free peripherals and software. Mine came with Franklin Planning software, which I have since paid for an upgrade to. I completely agree with all the positive points in the other reviews found here.

The only problem is that if you want to read pdf files (Adobe), the 8 MB memory just wouldn't do it. I replaced my IIIxe with an i705 (see my review under i705) for the faster processor, USB connection, and included Documents-to-Go software! The rechargable battery is nice too. The i705 has a SD card slot, so now I can have my pdf files and ebooks (text) downloaded from Project Gutenberg. I would skip the m1xx series and go right for the i705.

If you don't need to read large pdfs or PowerPoint slideshows on your pda, the IIIxe is the best!

Drop the laptop, and buy, buy, buy!
This is great. The palm pilot IIIxe is fast and works great. And people, honestly, do NOT buy from companies. go to http://www.half.com where you buy products without bidding. I bought mine brand new, with stylus, software and cradle for about $70-$80! In about a year I got a keyboard (which most people say costs $100, but because I bought it from Amazon.com, I got it brand new for $18.) But the IIIxe is great! 8MB of memory, great usability, uses 2 AAA batteries for about 1 month. Tons of games on the internet. I do not like the AvantGo, though and it doesn't have color, but so what. Just go to freewarepalm.com find SiEd (a great word processor) tons of games, and play! Organize your life! Works great!

Palm IIIxe
Excellent is the word I would choose to describe my experience with this particular Palm model. Its simple yet very stable and works like a charm for daily functions. It is also rugged and durable compared to the newer models.

Reliable, Simple, and Versatile!
If you can still find one it has the memory and durability you can depend on. It also has the feel of quality that some of the newer models don't. The IIIxe has been flawless in it's day to day operation over the past 10 months. The Palm OS is by far the more customizable, almost 5 times the apps of the other OS, and simple to use.

Great PDA.!
i bought this brand new palm IIIxe for only *gasp* $98.00
its brand new, i got it from a Canadian company, just the unit, flip cover, and stylus. so i went out and bought a $20 hotsync cable at bestbuy and have some apps installed.
i had bought a $75 palm Pro 1mb about a month earlier and i was disappointed with its lack of IR and memory. so i bought the 3xe model. its excellent! everything about it is wonderful. it uses batteries somewhat faster than my palm pro. but its not that bad. i was to use my palm professional for school, but other friend has m100 with IR so one with no IR wasn't fun. as for display perfect. the writewrights make the screen a little blurry so i just cut strips and put on graffiti area. the only problem i could see is that the hotsync cable does not have any strong attatchments, and the spring powered hotsync port cover is strong and kind of pushed the cable out. but its ok if you don't touch it while its hotsyncing. i use it for school now, i did have a coach leather case, but its too big with it on to fit in my pocket and i don't want to put it in my backpack for fear of it getting stolen so i just use the flip cover. all in all a great PDA, well worth my $98
i was considering getting a IIIC but i chose the IIIxe for its wonderful performance. (16 color is not very good plus battery drain)
