Been everywhere and it still keeps ticking
An old system but it has worked well for me. Keyboard and modem hookup keeps basic functions. The keyboard, the Palm IIIx and a lot of spare batteries and it traveled the Amazon jungle! Also went to see the Inca capital. No electric ... no problem since it wasn't a charge only system!!! Old. Not much memory. GREAT! I love it and bought a Palm VII in case this dies someday!

IIIx very unreliable after a year
I bought a IIIx. Just after the warranty expired the screen died on me, ghost outlines, and a faint partial image in a couple of areas. The rest of the screen blank. Called customer service. Patronizingly they told me I had to reset the PDA (sounded like a teenager reading off a script). I had obviously already tried a soft, double click and hard reset with no success. Having told them this and given that there was no way I could fix it myself they said that for $100+ they could either fix my IIIx or send me a replacement. I went the second route expecting that a refurbished IIIx would last more than my original IIIx repaired. Wrong! Just after the replacement warranty expired the screen went dead again the same way. I have decided not to buy anything from Palm again. Their support is terrible, their knowledge base is for toddlers, they refuse to further any technical info so I could attempt to fix the PDA myself, and they suck $100+ off you every few months for a new replacement handheld! I wonder what kind of refurbishing these guys do. No wonder they are losing the market to Sony and Handspring. Well deserved Palm, you are going the 3Com way!

I love my IIIx!
Hey, call me crazy, but I love my Palm!! I have the axxpac smart media reader plugged into the expansion slot on the board which enables me to store more stuff. Between that, my RAM and the Flash mem, I have over 20megs of memory! I do like the M500 series, but for now in my price range anyway, the IIIx is the best tool for me! It's somewhat reliable and does the stuff I need it to. Not a whole bunch of bells ans whistles, but it's just what I need!!

This thing is junk
Had the Unit for almost two years now. It can't keep the date accurate. I use the Franklin Planner software and it was good until the date function problem.

Palm=Poor reliability
I have had my Palm 3x for 2 years. When it works it is simple to use and has all the functionality I need. Unfortunately for the last year it has become increasingly unreliable. The sad part is that Palm's support has been lousy. They shrugged their shoulders, said it was out of warranty and offered to exchange the beast for $150. My problems seem to be a combination of hardware and software issues. My dilemma now is what to buy to replace my Palm?
