I have searched the message boards and read all questions and answers relating to running apps from the memory stick but I still cannot get applications with databases to work directly from the stick.I have downloaded MSMount and ‘enabled’ is blacked out.
I have used:
- MS Gate to transfer files.
- MS Import/Export – using both MS Export and Windows Explorer (I’m running XP so I can drag and drop to the stick).
- ‘change destination’ on the Desktop Install Tool
but I still cannot get it to work.
I have found that putting apps without database files into the PALM/Launcher directory on the stick allows me to run them directly – so no problem there.
But….if I put an app in the Launcher directory and the database in the same folder when I run the program it does not recognise the .pdb – even though MSGate shows me that it is there. An example is Chess Tiger because when I launch it I’m told that I “need to install book.pbd” but it is there. The same happens with GuitarPower.
I have tried putting the .pdb in the PALM/MSFILES directory but it still won’t recognise it. An example is MetrO where the .prc file is in Launcher and the .pdb files are in MSFILES – but still no joy. The only way I can get access to the city databases is to install MetrO on the handheld and move the .pdb files across using MS Gate.
I’d really be grateful for some advice on what I’ve been doing wrong and even better…how I can do it right. Thank you in anticipation of you help.
Simon
