Dude! I'm not kidding... I am having the EXACT SAME PROBLEM and it just started 2 days ago. You put it in the cradle and the red light goes on for just about 4 seconds... then it goes off. If you remove the power connector from the serial cable and plug it back in again, the same thing happens: Charging light goes on for 5 seconds, and then it stops...

And, like you said ... it will ONLY charge while ON in the cradle.

Someone out there, PLEASE help with this!
