Message:I don't want to get too deep into this....but here is a summary of my feelings about the M500 Series from Palm.
My Palm V was stolen a few weeks ago. I feel sorry for the thief...considering that the V only had 2MB of RAM. He had to be desperate. I really liked my V, but didn't like the lack of memory. It was a nice solid PDA though.
Well, I had to get something new. I knew about the new Palms coming out, and figured I would wait for them. I bought the M-500 as soon as I could get my hands on one. Well, it went back to the store the next day. Compared to my old V, I couldn't find anything about it that really stood out.
1. It isn't completely aluminum. The back is plastic. What was Palm thinking on this one?
2. The SD/MMC slot is nice, but for what I use the Palm for..couldn't be justified as a need.
3. Screen contrast wasn't any better than my old V. I know a lot of you will contest this observation. However, I was able to compare the two side by side (A co-worker has a Vx). It wasn't that discernable.
4. Lack of accessories (Hard Case, etc).
5. In terms of style...it really isn't all that different from the older V series.
There are more things, but these stood out. I cannot justify a color Palm for myself, so I didn't even consider the M-505. There is nothing wrong with a color palm...they do look nice.
So, I broke down and bought an IBM WorkPad c3 as well as a RhinoSkin molded aluminum hard case. (I had this with my old V). My total cost for both was $302.00. I saved quite a bit of money, and still got a great Palm PDA. With AFTERBURNER installed, it is very quick.
So, you can all rant and rave about the M-500 or 505 and that is OK with me. After all, it is ALL about PERSONAL PREFERENCE. I find it disappointing when I read the posts on this newsgroup and observe all the heated bickering that goes on. It would be nice if everyone would just cool it, and respect the opinions of others without taking things so personally.
And to $AMMY.....I don't care how old or what gender you are...your posts have been very professional, and I believe you have a more open mind about things than some of the other folks on this board. Keep up the good work.
There...I'll now step down from my soapbox.
