When will this be out. See my post from wireless advisor below. find I am now in need of a Palm OS 3.5 or higher, to run some Palm OS medical applications and for an automobile trouble code scanning product. I can wait a short while, but not for more than a month or so... The 7135 seems to suit the bill for me. Here is why.
I already carry a 64 mb Compaq iPAQ for my PDA and personal information manager now. I watch video and listen to mp3 on the iPAQ, and keep copies of my important data files on it (word and excel and webpages). I also have a PC card expansion pack and 2gb PC Card and a 340mb CF card to use with all this multimedia, but I DON'T really need more than a 128mb SD/MMC card in a Palm for my MP3's. I got great deals on this much storage and I mostly use them to backup my laptop anyways. I am also using a AT&T CDPD wireless PC card modem for $55/mo with unlimted bandwidth and good coverage (but slow).
The only Palm device's out there that could "replace" the iPAQ for most of my needs, and for MP3's and video, would be a Sony Clio. But, they are not wireless and I am using the iPAQ wireless and love it. I also don't want to adopt their memory stick but SD/MMC is okay. Then I heard about the Kyocera 7135 with 16mb, 65K color screen, MP3 and video, 1xRTT, full speakerphone and vibrate alert,SD slot, CDMA, clamshel design, less than 4"x2.5"x1.2"which is pocketable, etc etc... I have read the specs on the http://www.phonescoop.com and http://www.kyocera-wireless.com websites, and this just a short list of the features.
I guess I could sell the iPAQ, PC card sleeve, keyboard and wireless CDPD card plus my Z800 and stick a lot of money back in my pocket, and then go for the 7135 to consolidate everything into dragging around one device. I could cancel the $55 a month for CDPD service and buy more VERIZON airtime for internet use, since it will work with serial and USB which is what I need to use it for my laptop and for my car engine trouble code scanner.
As for my current phone, I just bought a Z800 on 7/20/02 for $399 and am very happy with it, but don't want to carry both my Z800 and 2 different PDA's at different times. I really like the BREW get mail program, and a couple of the games too, but the 7135 would be better for those functions. I love the phone color screen, and don't want a Kyocera 6035 SmartPhone which I think is short on memory with no expansion, has a dull screen, is bulky and the flip doesn't cover the whole screen to protect it. I can get one for $170 though. They do seem to retain their resale value though, so switching from the Z800 to 6035 might be an option
So, Questions:
1) Any idea of when the Kyocera 7135 Palm Flip Phone will be released?
2) Any idea of the price (not important but helps to know)?
3) Should I attempt to return the Z800 for a cheap Kyocera 3035, to use as a phone until the 7135 is out, or enjoy the Z800 for the time being?
4) Will I lose too much resale value on the Z800 if I don't return it now before all the other color 1xRTT phones come out.
5) Do you think the store will let me return the phone tomorrow when it is 22 days old, outside of the 15 day trial period? I could complain about the 2 day battery life if I only use it 30 minutes a day for voice and only 20 incoming alerts a day. They claimed 6 days of battery life, or 180 minutes of talk time - yet if I use the phone for 1/3 the talk time I only get 1/3 the standby they promise. However, in reality, charging it every other night with one bar left on the battery meter is not a problem...
6) Should I just keep what I have and spend $100 on a Palm M105, which leaves me with an extra PDA for using at work...
I would appreciate any feedback I can get ASAP!
