Motorola's Droid smartphone, offered by Verizon Wireless, beat out the likes of the iPhone 3GS (#4), the Kindle 2 and others to become Time Magazine's top gadget for 2009. In fact, the Kindle 2, Amazon.com's top-selling product, didn't even find a place on the the list of Top 10 Gadgets. Instead, Barnes & Noble's answer to the eBook reader, The Nook, landed at #2.

Below is Time's full list of the hottest gadgets in 2009.

1. Motorola Droid
2. The Nook
3. Dyson Air Multiplier
4. iPhone 3GS
5. Canon EOS-1D Mark IV
6. Dell Adamo XPS
7. FinePix Real 3D W1
8. Casio G-Shock GW7900B-1
9. Beats Solo by Dr. Dre
10. Panasonic G10 Series Plasma HDTVs

The Droid is the most well-received smartphone since the iPhone, and one fo the hottest selling. The advanced handset is also the first device to run on Android 2.0 and integrates Google Maps Navigation.

It includes a hi-res touch display over a horizontal slider keyboard. There's also a 5-megapixel camera, an accelerometer, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, advanced web browser, and a powerful 550MHz processor. The smartphone weighs 6 ounces and measures 4.6-inches x 2.4 x 3.7 inch inches, and includes 5.5mm headphone jack, micro-USB port and a 16GB micro-SD card.

Verizon sells the Droid for $199 after rebates.
