Windows Mobile App Store Gains Support for Earlier Platforms

By James Alan Miller
November 18, 2009

Last week, we reported on how Microsoft greatly improved its Windows Marketplace for Mobile by allowing users to shop from the PC over the Web, just like you can do for the iPhone with iTunes. This week Redmond’s added support for Windows Mobile 6.1 and 6.0 smartphones.

Until now, the application store only supported the Windows Mobile 6.5 platform, which it launched with last month. Point your smartphone's browser to mp.windowsphone.com to download Windows Marketplace for Mobile to your Windows Mobile 6.1 or 6.0-run handset. According to Microsoft, about 90 percent of apps in the catalogue support these devices. < See here to learn more about this at Microsoft's The Windows Phone Blog.
