Verizon's Chaperone program lets parents monitor the location of their children's cell phones via their own phones or the Web. The system, now in version 2.0, lets parents:

  • Locate all the child-line phones on their plans at once
  • With VZ Navigator, get turn-by-turn directions to a child's location
  • Send a text message to all child-lines at once, from the parent phone or the web
  • Control Child Zone messaging settings such as time and alerts

    The Chaperone 2.0 service is $9.99/mo per line.

    Control Your Phones
    If you hold the purse strings for a multiple-line Verizon Wireless account, the company has expanded your ability to monitor and control how your phones are used. The system is called Usage Controls and is more robust than the preexisting Parental Controls.

    Go to VerizonWireless.com and click on My Verizon, then My Personal Account and log in. Then select My Services. Some of the powers you wield from there include:

  •
  • Setting thresholds for voice minutes;
  •
  • Set time of day restrictions for data use and messaging;
  •
  • Create lists of "trusted" and "blocked" numbers (calls to 911 will always be allowed to connect); and
  •
  • Employ content filters.

    Usage Controls are available for $4.99/month.
