Palm Selling Two Handhelds for the Price of One

Buy a Palm TX online directly from Palm, Inc. and the company will throw in a Palm Z22 for free through February 29th. Apparently Palm, which is streamlining its operations to focus on its core products, is looking to clear out its aging PDA inventory.

It's been a longtime since Palm has released a mobile device that wasn't a smartphone. So although the $300 Palm TX is Palm's top-of-the-line handheld, it is close to three years old.

The Palm Z22, which is of the same vintage as the Palm TX, is an entry-level model. It sells for $99 by itself.

The Palm TX offers Bluetooth, Wi-Fi (802.11b), 128 MB of memory, and a 312 MHz CPU. It measures 4.7 x 3.1 x 0.6 inches and weighs 5.25 ounces. The handheld's 65,000 color screen runs at a 320 x 480 pixels. A flip cover protects the display, an SD slot allows you to increase storage, and there's a 3.5mm Stereo jack for listening to music.

At 2.7 x 4.06 x 0.6 inches and 3 ounces, the Palm Z22 is a compact and light organizer built for the mass market. The entry-level PDA's display runs at a very low 160 x 160 pixels. It has 32MB of memory with only 20MB of that actually available to the user.

Additional features include Palm OS Garnet 5.4 like the Palm TX and a 200 MHz processor. There's no memory slot to add more storage via an expansion card.
