SplashData has a new Enterprise and Government Edition of SplashID, its application for securely organizing and managing passwords, user names and other sensitive records. The company says the new version is capable of storing an unlimited number of records and can also assist users in creating new, unique passwords. With SplashID Enterprise and Government Edition, organizations can also prevent users from printing lists of passwords, and it allows companies to add their own branding. It is compatible with Windows and the Mac OS on the desktop, and the Palm OS, Windows Mobile Pocket PC and Smartphone, Symbian S60 and UIQ, and RIM BlackBerry on the mobile front. According to the SplashData, because of the nature of confidential information, government agencies and enterprises have specialized security requirements, such as mandatory frequent password changes, that make keeping track of passwords and logins a nuisance. Organizations frequently ask employees to choose a password that contains letters and numbers and to change them regularly. But many users write down their passwords, list them in an unprotected computer file or spreadsheet or use variations of the same password over and over again. All of these methods create substantial security risks. SplashData asserts it solves this problem through 256-bit Blowfish encryption, a masking feature and a random password generator that allows employees to securely store user names, passwords, filenames and other confidential information. “Any organization with applications or services that are accessed by passwords needs an easy way for employees to create secure passwords, change them frequently and not forget them or expose them to thieves and hackers,” says SplashData CEO Morgan Slain. “With SplashID Enterprise and Government Edition, each employee has a personal encrypted data vault that they can access anytime, anywhere.” This new edition of SplashID can also help enterprises meet compliance requirements for corporate internal controls under Sarbanes-Oxley and HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) standards, the company says.
SlashID Enterprise and Government Edition is available on a site license basis or per-seat basis with pricing dependent on the size of the deployment.
