Beiks appears to be the first—in what Fossil no doubt hopes will be a slew—of developers to create applications specifically for the company's new Palm OS watch, the Wrist PDA. The software vendor even opened a new section to at online store devoted just to the device.

Initial offerings from Beiks for the watch include utilities (A+ & Same Time) and a game (Karateka). Beiks expects to release dictionaries and reference applications—the company’s specialties—for Wrist PDA in the near future.

As for today, A+ ($9.95) is a utilities bundle that extends five productivity and enhancements to the watch. It includes HotsyncNow! to simplify desktop syncing, Business Card to beam contact information from within any app, Backlight to keep the watch’s backlight aglow, Quick Launch to switch apps without the Palm Launcher, and Stopwatch.

A+

Karateka

SameTime ($6.95) is a clock for the desktop and Wrist PDA that synchronizes the two, while the game, Karateka ($9.95), is a scaled down version of the classic karate action game.

More on Wrist PDA
The watch promises to offer all the capabilities of a full-size handheld in a watch. It includes 8MB of memory (4x as much as the original unreleased model), runs on Palm OS 4.1 and a 66 MHz Motorola Dragonball Super VZ processor, and even includes a stylus within the watch buckle for Graffiti and other types of input on its 160x160 pixel resolution grayscale with backlight touch screen.

Other features include one-handed navigation via a 3-way Rocker switch and Back button, the ability to beam data to another Palm device via the Infrared Port, USB HotSync support for Mac OS and Windows, and a lithium-ion rechargeable battery that lasts approximately 3-4 days. The battery can be recharged with an included AC adapter.

The company’s self-branded Palm OS watch features a stainless steel case and black leather strap. It sells for $249 directly from Fossil . The ABACUS brand Wrist PDA also uses a stainless steel case, but implements a rubber strap with padded black leather inlay instead. It is available exclusively through Tiger Direct for $199.
