Companies Support New Palm Handhelds

A number of companies have announced support for Palm's new WiFi-enabled Tungsten C handheld and consumer orientated Zire 71 multimedia PDA. Companies include Wayport, Notify Technology, Audible.Com, MARGI Systems, Bachmann Software, and Mazingo Network.

Wayport
Wayport, a provider of WiFi (802.11b) wireless and wired high-speed Internet access in more than 525 hotels and 10 airports, has signed an agreement with Palm to promote Wayport's service to users of the Tungsten C handheld.

Components of the co-marketing agreement will include a 30-day free trial of Wayport's Wi-Fi and wired Internet access with the purchase of a Palm Tungsten C handheld, as well as co-promotions to Palm and Wayport's customers via each company's e-newsletters and Web site.

Palm customers who sign up for the free trial will receive 30 days of unlimited high-speed Internet connectivity -- both WiFi wireless and wired in hotels that include such brands as Four Seasons, Loews, Wyndham, Marriott and Embassy Suites, as well as WiFi access in six major airports: LaGuardia, Dallas-Fort Worth, Seattle-Tacoma, San Jose, Austin- Bergstrom and Oakland.

The free trial also entitles Palm Tungsten C handheld customers to 25 percent off workstation charges at Wayport's 15 Laptop Lane airport business centers, featuring private offices with high-speed Internet access and other business services. Following the 30-day trial, users will have the option to sign up for one of Wayport's membership programs to continue receiving unlimited access to the Wayport network.

Notify Technology
Notify Technology said it would support the Tungsten(d on any accessible WiFi network on all versions of it's NotifyLink Enterprise Edition products. Currently the NotifyLink Enterprise Edition products provide organizations using Novell GroupWise, Microsoft Exchange, and various IMAP4/POP3 email systems with secure wireless push notification, access, and management of email, calendar, contacts, and tasks. It also supports CDMA/1XRTT, GSM/GPRS, DataTAC, Mobitex, and ReFLEX networks.

Audible.Com
According to Audible.Com, it has expanded product integration relationship with Palm, to Palm Zire 71. Users of new Zire 71 handhelds can listen to any of Audible.com's 34,000 hours of downloadable audiobooks and more. The Zire 71 handheld is an "AudibleReady" Palm handheld that is capable of playing back spoken audio titles downloaded from Audible.com (Windows only). Zire 71 handheld users are offered one free month of SmartListener, a special version of Audible's membership program created for Palm and only available to Palm handheld customers.

MARGI Systems
MARGI Systems announced that its Presenter-to-Go presentation solution is compatible with both the Tungsten C and Zire 71 handhelds, allowing users conduct presentations directly from these handhelds. MARGI Presenter-to-Go SD now supports all Palm handhelds that feature the Palm Expansion Slot for SecureDigital Cards, SDIO and MultiMediaCard media

Bachmann Software
Bachmann Software's PrintBoy mobile printing software will be included with the Tungsten C. This is the first Palm branded handheld to offer PrintBoy on the in-box Software Essentials CD.

According to the company, PrintBoy, Standard Edition allows users to print DataViz's Documents To Go documents, spreadsheets, and presentations as well as information from the standard Palm OS applications such as Memo, Date Book, To Do List and Address Book. Using PrintBoy, Tungsten C handheld owners can produce and share printouts of files via infrared, WiFi or other network connection.

Mazingo Network

Mazingo Network announced that for the first time, Palm handheld users (Zire 71) will have access to a its mobile entertainment network with TV highlights from shows like Extra and Celebrity Justice, Associated Press news, weather forecasts from The Weather Channel, short films and more that are automatically delivered daily to the palm of their hands.

Mazingo is offering a 40% discounted promotion for Palm users to coincide with the launch of the new Palm handhelds. The Mazingo "Mobile Entertainment Package" includes one year of Mazingo service along with a Lexar 6-in-1 card reader. For a limited time , a full year of Mazingo service will be available for $94.95 along with a Lexar 6-in-1 card reader for $24.95.
