At the CeBIT show in Germany, Samsung announced its latest Palm OS smartphone, the SGH-i500, which features Palm OS 5.2 and runs on GPS/GPRS (900/1800,1900) wireless networks for worldwide phone support.

The SGH-i500, measuring 3.5 x 2.2 x 1.0 inches and weighing 5.3 ounces, includes an integrated 330,000 pixel digital camera for 640x640 pixel pictures and a built-in flash. Because the device runs Palm OS 5.2, it includes the new Graffiti 2 text-entry system, which is based on CIC's Jot. Other features include 32 MB of RAM and 32 MB of ROM, far more memory than any other Palm OS device. It also features the fasted processor ever integrated into a Palm OS handheld, the Intel PXA262 processor at 300 MHz.

The clamshell smartphone has the keypad and buttons on one side of its 320x353 pixel TFT display on the other. The display supports 65,000 colors. A second 96x64 pixel screen on the outside of the clamshell supports 256 colors. An SDIO compatible Secure Digital slot is available for extra storage and SD peripherals.

Samsung didn't release pricing, carrier or availability information for the SGH-i500.

Well, yeah, the I500 is out... BUT the CDMA version is a lesser unit than the GSM version...The GSM unit runs OS 5 on an ARM processor while the CDMA version runs 4.1 on a dragonball. The GSM unit has an SDIO slot, where the CDMA unit has none......more

Yeah, Samsung announces a new OS 5 Phone with all the features you've been drooling over... except that it won't work on a CDMA network. Anyone have any ideas why major electronics manufacturers insist on releasing better phones for GSM networks?...more
