PDA Sommelier Doubles Wine Cellar

By James Miller
December 1, 2003

20,000 new wines have been added to version 2.2 of PDA Sommelier ($30), a PDA-based wine guide for the Palm OS and Pocket PC 2003 operating systems. This amounts to a 60% increase over the total number of rated wines included in the first edition.

The application, developed by Charles Gill, a wine industry veteran with 25 years in the business, now includes 50,000 wines from recent vintages. With PDA Sommelier, users can deploy PDA Sommelier's 'Wine Search' function to obtain wine ratings by country of origin, region, and producer.

A 'Vintage Chart' feature rates overall vintage quality for most of the world's prominent wine regions, while the 'Best Producers' and 'Best Values' listings reveal the finest wineries and best deals for specific varieties and appellations. A 'Food /Wine Pairing' feature suggests appropriate wine matches for an array of 130 food types.
