Mystified by which wine to select with Veal Scaloppini? Unsure if 1996 Bordeaux are not only ready to drink but even worth buying? Uncertain which 1999 Chardonnay on the store shelf is the best value? That information and more can always be on hand with Alambicor Inc.'s PDA Sommelier, a new wine guide for Palm OS and Windows CE devices. Sommelier is a French term for a professional wine steward.

According to Alambicor, PDA Sommelier offers 30,000+ ratings organized by country of origin, region and variety in its "Wine Search" function. Other features include a "Food/Wine Pairing" function that pairs wines with over 150 different food items, organized by category, and a "Vintage Chart" that evaluates vintages from all of the world's major wine regions, providing insight into the quality and agreeability of wines from specific years. PDA Sommelier also offers a "Best Values" section that reveals affordable, high-quality wines from the world's better wine regions and a "Best Producers" area that provides a list of quality champions in their respective regions and varieties/appellations.

To develop PDA Sommelier, Charles Gill, a 23-year wine industry veteran, partnered with iConcepts, a Philadelphia-based IT firm. For PDA Sommelier, iConcepts said it gathered and organized ratings and awards from numerous independent wine authorities to create a consensus on most of the wines available in the U.S. market.

A free 14-day trial version of PDA Sommelier can be downloaded from the PDA Sommelier website. The product retails for $29.95, and updates-- which provide over 5,000 new ratings of recently released wines--are available every three months for $9.95 each. As a special Father's Day promotion, PDA Sommelier is being offered with a free update and customized Father's Day eCard at the regular retail price. All orders received before June 30th will receive a free update as well.
