Red Mercury, a handheld entertainment software company, has released AcidImage 2.0 ($19.95), an image viewer for the Palm OS that allows users to view their JPEG, GIF and BMP images directly from a Memory Card or Memory Stick. The company said AcidImage supports all resolutions, including the new 320x480 screens, and works on grayscale or color devices. Michael Schoenfeld, an advertising photographer in Salt Lake City, Utah, said, "A Palm OS handheld with AcidImage represents a paradigm shift for visual artists," said Schoenfeld. "I can carry my entire visual life history on a 64MB Memory Card, available for immediate recall for anyone who wants to see. This is the 'Killer App' for anybody in the visual arts."
According to Red Mercury, handheld owners with digital cameras are usually scratching their heads... the Memory Stick fits in the camera, it fits in the Palm OS handheld... but why can't the handheld show the full resolution, 16-bit, JPEG image? AcidImage allows users to view images directly from a Memory Card on a Palm OS handheld without converting them to any special format.
