Continuing our series of reviews on classic arcade games ported to the Palm OS we are moving on to Spy Hunter. This Midway classic has been taken from the arcade and magically shrunken to fit into the Palm of your hand. How does this scaled down version stack up to the original? You'll have to read the full review to find out.
Spy Hunter is the classic arcade game where you're at the wheel of a sweet street machine that has two machine guns as part of the standard equipment. Your mission is to save the world by destroying the cars carrying spies. Be careful though, as you don't want to shoot down any civilians.
Pocket Express has done a nice job capturing the fun of the arcade game with their Palm version. The Palm version may be scaled down in size, but its big on excitement. When the special weapons truck arrives you have access to all of the same weapons that you had in the arcade. See how well you can do with the oil slicks, smoke screens, and/or missiles.
Many of the classic games that have been ported/re-coded to the Palm platform have problems with slowdowns, but Spy Hunter is free from any slowdowns. This game has some of the smoothest movements I've seen on any Palm games. Also, unlike many of the other games that have been ported to the Palm OS, Spy Hunter doesn't seem limited in any way by the smaller screen. The scale was preserved, and the action is easily viewable.
