In a move
that provides a powerful, web-browsing option for Palm(TM) handheld computers,
Palm, Inc., a leading provider of handhelds, today unveiled the
Palm Web Browser. This full-featured HTML browser gives users of
Internet-enabled Palm m125, m130, m500, m505, m515 and i705 handhelds the
ability to access any URL on the Internet, bookmark and categorize favorite
sites, easily save information for offline viewing, and cache a history of
visited sites. Users can do all this whether they are connected to the
Internet wirelessly or via a modem.
The Palm Web Browser is scheduled to be available in the United States on
April 8, in Europe at the end of April, and in other regions at a later date,
for an estimated U.S. street price of $19.95. It will be
available for purchase and download online in the United States at The Palm
Store ( http://store.palm.com ), in Europe at PalmDirect.com
( http://www.palmdirect.com ), and in other regions through various
third-party online vendors.
"The new Palm Web Browser gives our Internet-connected customers yet
another great option for accessing web content on-the-go," said Todd Bradley,
executive vice president and chief operating officer of the Solutions Group at
Palm, Inc. "Our web clipping approach is ideal for quick hits for specific
information; the new browser affords the additional freedom to explore any
website and save important information."
Sophisticated compression technology in the Palm Web Browser downloads
text quickly, so users can search and read information while multiple graphics
continue to load from a page. Optimized web pages provide the ability to view
any URL on the Internet and display web content to the appropriate size of the
Palm handheld screen. Caching enables users to capture online information,
such as a customized map or a specific news article, and save it for viewing
offline.
