Tungsten W to Bundle CIC's Handwriting Recognition Software

Communication Intelligence Corporation (CIC) today announced a licensing agreement with Palm, Inc. for CIC's Jot handwriting recognition software and a co-marketing agreement for additional CIC products.

Under terms of the licensing agreement, CIC's Jot software will be bundled with every Palm Tungsten W handheld, providing users with a natural and intuitive handwriting recognition system. We at Palm Boulevard have been using Jot for years and find it indispensable. The Tungsten W handheld is Palm's first handheld with an integrated keyboard. Palm said it chose Jot because it permits data entry on the viewing screen and does not require a special data-entry area found on previous Palm handhelds. Under the co-marketing arrangement Palm will also promote CIC's range of Palm OS based applications. Shipments of the Palm Tungsten W handheld are slated to begin early next year.

In addition to Jot, CIC's product offerings for Palm's devices include WordComplete, a text entry utility; QuickNotes, an electronic note-taking solution; InkSnap, which offers dynamic ink scaling for handwritten notes on small form factor devices; and Sign-On, a security utility for Palm handhelds that uses biometric signature verification.
