Rococo Software Releases Palm OS Bluetooth Developer Kit

By
October 4, 2002

Rococo Software has released the Impronto Developer Kit for PalmOS, a standards-based Java toolkit for developing Bluetooth applications.

Rococo said the Impronto Developer Kit is an implementation of standard Java APIs for Bluetooth Wireless Technology (JABWT). The company claims Rococo’s toolkit allows developers to focus on building applications rather than worrying about complex Bluetooth specifications.

According to Rococo, the Impronto Developer Kit implements standard Java APIs to reduce the Bluetooth learning curve and to cut application development time. The company claims the toolkit is the first independent implementation of JABWT on the market. “Layering Java on top of Bluetooth using the JABWT standard is one of the best ways to advance the creation of a new range of useful and compelling Bluetooth applications,” said Sean O’Sullivan, Rococo Software CEO.

Features of Impronto DK for PalmOS:
--Allows developers build Java Bluetooth applications for PalmOS
--Implements standard Java APIs for Bluetooth Wireless Technology (JABWT)
--Runs applications on Bluetooth devices that support Java
--Provides abstractions of Bluetooth wireless communication using the Java 2 Micro Edition (J2ME) --Generic Connection Framework
--Is based on J2ME Connected Limited Device Configuration (CLDC)
--Addresses primary Bluetooth profiles
--Includes industry-leading WebSphere Micro Environment (J9) from IBM
