By Palm Boulevard Staff Sony has licensed the NetFront v3.0 browser from ACCESS, a Japanese vendor of software and services for IP-based consumer electronics devices, for use in its recently announced CLIE PEG-NX70V/NX60 PDAs. According to ACCESS, NetFront v3.0 includes SSL security as well as 320 x 420 dot high-resolution wide display compatibility and three screen display settings: Standard display, displays web pages as they would normally appear on browser screen; Reduced display, images and tables are reduced 50%; and Just-Fit display: images and tables are displayed in a layout that fits within the browser screen, and text is wrapped within the screen margins. Other features include Page Memo, to save website pages as they are displayed on a Memory Stick and browse online; Auto Cruise, where latest bookmark settings are automatically downloaded when connecting to the Internet; and a tap and scroll function to scroll in all directions by dragging cursor on screen ACCESS said NetFront's modular architecture allows for custom configurations for specific target hardware. This scalability allows NetFront v3.0 to cover appliance profiles from mobile phones to digital televisions. In addition to the latest W3C specifications HTML 4.01 and XHTML 1.0, the company said NetFront v3.0 supports enhanced features such as Dynamic HTML, ECMA Script (JavaScript), DOM (Document Object Model), CSS, and SSL (Secure Socket Layer). JV-Lite2, a J2ME compliant Java runtime environment, and an MMS client are also available as optional modules. Related Links:
