Palm Inc. plans to embed content management vendor Stellent, Inc.'s Outside In Wireless Export technology in the new Tungsten Mobile Information Management (MIM) Solution. Palm said the Tungsten Mobile Information Management Solution offers enterprises a c wireless email and groupware access system using the Palm i705 handheld and the Palm m500 series handhelds with the Xircom 802.11 module.

The Stellent Wireless Export technology is slated to enable Tungsten Mobile Information Management users to view email attachments on their Palm handhelds without having to perform a HotSync operation with their desktop environments via a cradle or transfer the native file to the Palm handheld prior to viewing.

"The Stellent technology provides our Tungsten MIM users with a truly real-time, synchronization-free wireless operation for accessing email attachments on their mobile devices," said Jonathan Oakes, director of enterprise strategy for Palm Inc. "This functionality is critical for today's enterprises, whose mobile work forces must have reliable access to email attachments when they are away from their desktops."

Stellent said its Outside In Wireless Export technology offers application developers and service providers on-demand conversion of more than 225 file types to WML, cHTML/iMode, HDML, HTML, AvantGo HTML, WCA HTML 1.1 and ASCII text for high-fidelity viewing of business content on all wireless devices. As a server-based technology, Outside In Wireless Export is wireless device independent.

Palm's Tungsten Mobile Information Management Solution is scheduled to begin shipping on October 28th.
