Cutting Edge Software, Inc. and DDH Software, Inc., two pioneering developers of productivity applications for Palm Powered™ handheld devices, have teamed to launch Quickdata, a free data utility that gives mobile professionals a completely integrated "Office-Style" solution. Quickdata enables users to quickly and easily share data between Cutting Edge Software's Quicksheet spreadsheet application and DDH Software's HanDBase relational database. Users of both Cutting Edge Software's Quickoffice suite, which includes Quicksheet, the Quickword text editor and Quickchart graphing application, and HanDBase can download the free Quickdata utility and enjoy integrated "Office-style" productivity while on the road.
"Just as Microsoft's Access and Excel have provided workers with flexibility when they work with their data on the desktop, the teaming of HanDBase and Quicksheet empowers mobile professionals with more choices in how they work with data on their handheld computers," said Michael Compeau, Cutting Edge Software's vice president of business development and planning. "Our mission is to enable mobile professionals to become more productive on-the-go and Quickdata enables users of the top Palm OS devices to tap into the power of our complete suite allowing them to accomplish more work anytime and anywhere."
The Quickdata utility enables users who own Quicksheet and HanDBase to have a host of new capabilities for viewing and entering data or exchanging data with other users and their own desktop. For example, HanDBase's many "form" entry methods, such as check boxes and pop-up fields, simplify the process of entering data on the small screen of a handheld computer. If this data needs to be analyzed in a tabular format, or if it needs to be plotted on a chart or graph, the data can be transferred while on the device to Quicksheet via the Quickdata utility and displayed in a spreadsheet or charted with Cutting Edge's Quickchart feature. All of Quicksheet's tools, including more than 60 formulas and functions, can be applied to the data while still preserving the native HanDBase database.
Because data can flow bi-directionally, the data stored in Quicksheet can likewise be exported to HanDBase to automatically complete forms or to be beamed to other HanDBase users. Since HanDBase is the first cross-platform database in the handheld computing industry, the data can be beamed to other HanDBase users with either Palm Powered™ or PocketPC Powered devices. This functionality eliminates a major barrier that previously prevented many mobile professionals from collaborating and exchanging data.
