SilverScreen is a popular launcher for the Palm operating system which we recently
reviewed for this site. One of the reasons for SilverScreen's popularity is the ability to customize the look of the launcher with different theme packs. These fun theme packs offered a way to set your Palm apart from the rest. SilverScreen made excellent use of the built in grayscale support for most PalmOS devices, but it failed to include any type of color support. Palm users who were using the Palm IIIc or the Visor Prism had to either use SilverScreen as a grayscale application on their color device, or look elsewhere for their launcher. With today's release of ChromaCast and an updated version of SilverScreen the long awaited color support has arrived.
Installing ChromaCast
Download and install ChromaCast just as you would install any other SilverScreen theme or Palm database. If SilverScreen is not yet installed on your Palm you will also need to install SilverScreen. Once the files have been installed on your Palm tap on the SilverScreen icon and the program will automatically initialize itself and set itself to open via the application button. The initialization process may take a while to complete so do not panic if your Palm appears to have frozen. I too thought that my Palm had frozen, but a little bit of patience paid off with the great color themes that I'm now able to use.
Note: SilverScreen 1.9.5 or higher must be installed on your Palm powered device for color support via ChromaCast.
The selection of colored themes is still very limited, and there are no color icon packs yet so long time users may have a short wait before their favorite them and icon packs get colorized. There is hope though, as the grayscale theme packs will still work after ChromaCast is installed. If you use a grayscale theme pack the third party applications will be colored or grayscale as per the developers icon, but the Palm and System application icons will appear grayscale.
