Biplane Ace by Astraware takes you back to the days of the Red Baron and the glorious dogfights of the early 20th century. You go one on one against the computer or another person with a PalmOS device to see who will reign as king of the skies.

Pros: Astraware has filled a niche with this title. There doesn’t seem to be any other game similar to Biplane Ace. The same quality and attention to detail that Astraware has become known for is evident in this Biplane Ace. Those of you familiar with other Astraware titles will find the User Interface very similar to the other titles. If you’re looking to get a quick fix to satisfy your need of a little dogfight then this game may do the trick. The graphics are fairly good considering the small screen and limited graphic capabilities of a palm. I like the way that you can see the plane getting bigger or smaller as it ascends or descends.

The ability to ascend and descent your plane as well as bank to the left and right add depth to the game. You can escape a shot by descending and watch the bullet fly past your plane. The screen wraps over the edges creating yet another layer of difficulty.

Cons: The lack of changing background and/or different enemies makes the game monotonous at times. Although the game was fun at the beginning I quickly lost interest as I the game seemed to just be repeating over and over again.
The game also lacked a life meter. This would sometimes make it difficult to tell if you scored a hit or got hit, especially when the planes are flying very close to each other. A small indicator would be a big improvement to the game.
