good price for 4 batteries AND a charger
$20 is 50% of what Charge-N-Run is going for and a darn good price for 4 rechargable batteries and a charger. As long as you only need your batteries to last a week and don't mind doing the swapping weekly, you have a good solution.

This is what we did for a year or so until we invented Charge-N-Run. Only our 550mAh NiMH batteries cost $5/pair (when 10 batteries were purchased) and the NiMH charger was $20. At that time the RadioShack charger was almost $50. The battery swapping got old for me but everybody has their own threshold on what they will put up with.

Good solution at a good price.

$20 Radio Shack for rechargeables & charger
I went to Radio Shack a year ago when I gto my Palm VIIx. I got a chager and 2 sets of batteries for $20. I swap out a set ever week. Still use the same 2 sets. This is my solution.

Would like to swap out the internal someday, too. Charges at times wheen I don't want it to charge. Any solutions?

Re: Why not to use litium battery?
I agree that it would be nice to have a lithium battery pack. You must take into consideration the added cost that would be associated with a lithium battery pack.

Why not to use litium battery?
Actualy I use NiMh battery pack, and it works fine. I think this solution could be better with litium battery

Convenience
I have used other forms of rechargeable batteries in my Palms before. I have tried many things including other charger sytems for the Palm and also NiMH rechargeable batteries. None of those systems came close to the convenience that is being described here. You simply stick the device in the cradle...which you should do anyway to sync...and it is charging.

What is of value to you
Ricky has a very good point and to some, replacing batteries is no inconvenience at all. To others, dead batteries can mean data loss and another trip to the company battery storage locker or another trip to the store.

We fully understand that at $39.95, it would take a couple of years to make your money back if all you count as value is the cost of the batteries. It's very difficult to put a price on convenience, but we think it's worth something and so do our many customers. We fully agree with Ricky that this product is not for everyone but don't underestimate your time and efforts keeping your PDA batteries energized. There are other things to worry about which are much more important.

Thanks for your post Ricky. It's good to see people are thinking about these kind of things.

Calculate the value
I use a Palm VIIx, and I consider myself to be a heavy user. Typically, a set of batteries last me between 10 and 14 days. I usually buy Duracell, or Energizer batteries at Wal-Mart for a cost of about $5.00 for a pack of 8. This means that a single battery change costs me about $1.25.

The Charge-N-Run is about $40. For $40, I can buy 32 sets of batteries, which will last me between 320 and 448 days. Chances are pretty good that I will upgrade to a rechargable Palm within the next year, so it is only a borderline value for me. If I was planing on keeping the VIIx for more than a year, it might be a better value.
