High Five is a dice game written by Bryan Cote. It is played exactly like that old dice game, Yahtzee, by Milton Bradley. I happen to love Yahtzee, as it happens to be a "family" game. My dad got one of those electronic Yahtzee games for Christmas last year and we've probably played 1000 games on there already. If you aren't familiar with the game, it's basically poker played with dice. You get 3 rolls per turn. At the end of each turn, you have to fill in a score i n one of 13 boxes. As soon as you are done filling up all 13 boxes, the game is over and you add up all the boxes and bonuses (if you were so lucky) to get your final score. The lowest possible score would be 5 and the highest possible score would have to be my dad's high score of 609. Way to go, DAD!! The way to get those really be scores is to roll lots of Yahtzee's or...High Five's, in this case. High Five's are when you are able to get all five dice to match, i.e., five one's or five two's, etc. So, now that you know the basics, let's review High Five.

Pros:
This game was a lot of fun to play. (I wonder how Bryan made all five of those little dice roll?) Game play wasn't hard to figure out and I was able to play a game right away without any trouble at all. There is a neat little lighting sequence that occurs when you roll a high five, but the rest of the game is pretty plain. However, plain is often good, in my opinion. Too many graphics and sounds can clutter up an otherwise smooth interface.

Cons:
I only have one con and a few requests, which I'll make known to Bryan, via email. I think that there may be a problem with scoring when you roll a second (bonus) high five. As far as I know, you should be able to take that bonus as a small or large straight, but it didn't allow me to do that. Pretty small problem, considering it's only once in a blue moon that I ever roll more than one High Five. I would suggest, however, that he make the dice themselves the hold buttons. Currently, to hold one of the dice you have to press a hold button at the bottom of the die. I would also like to have a little bit of sound as an option. I know I said that I like a smooth operation, but I only need a little sound to make me happy. Oh...I forgot to tell you...it's free! (that should be a pro, huh?)
