How to Remap the Quick Launch Buttons

By Palm Boulevard Staff

PROBLEM

You want to make your Palm unit launch other applications when you press one of the buttons on the front of the unit. In other words, since you don't use the to-do list button...ever...you'd rather make it launch an application that you DO use on a regular basis. (i.e. a cool game like chess or another application like an alarm clock.)

RESOLUTION

I believe this will work for ALL versions of Palm computers.

  • Turn on your Palm unit.
  • Take out your stylus and tap (very gently) on the APPLICATIONS button until you see the word "All" in the upper right hand corner of your screen. (You can tap it several times.)
  • Scroll through the icons on your screen until you find the "Prefs" button and tap it. To scroll you can either use the scroll buttons (or button for Palm III users) located in the front middle of your unit, or you can tap on the little scroll bar located on the right hand side of your screen.
  • After you tap the "Prefs" button, tap (don't press and hold) on the drop down list in the upper right hand corner of your screen and find the word "Buttons". Tap it once.
  • From the "Buttons" screen you can change the default "program launch" settings for the four buttons on the front of your unit as well as the calculator button on the bottom, right hand side of your screen.
  • To do this, tap on the drop down list to the right of the button you wish to modify. When the drop down list appears, scroll through the list until you see the name of the application you would like to launch using that button. (You should be able to launch almost ANY application that is loaded onto your unit.) Tap on the name one time and the list should disappear, leaving the new application name beside the button you have modified. Now, everytime you press that button, the new application will launch.
  • If you wish to reset your buttons to the default settings, just tap the default button located at the bottom of the "Buttons" screen.
